Terrified drivers spot BUS driving the wrong way along Denver highway
The city of Denver is outraged after a bus driver drove a public bus the wrong way down a busy highway on Tuesday.
There were no injuries after the incident but the terrifying mistake could have been deadly.
'This shouldn't have happened,' said a spokesperson for Regional Transportation District (RTD), the company that operates public buses for the city. 'We were very fortunate.'
The bus driver made the mistake before 7am on Tuesday, according to KUSA-TV.
Another bus driver, driving northbound in the correct direction of traffic, notified a dispatcher when he saw the bus going in the wrong direction.
The police escorted the buss of the highway and the driver, who was not identified, was cited for careless driving.
The driver was a substitute driver and said it was an accident.
He will be suspended during RTD's inteal investigation, which will include drug and alcohol testing.
The Denver Post reported that in July 2010, a bus driver resigned after a similar incident.
Wrong way: The bus operator said they will review ways to clearly mark the ramp though it appeared from signs that it was fairly obvious
