Teens Jaivous Collins, Markel Brannon and Xavier Clarke charged in school stairwell rape

Athens-Clark County Police are investigating after a 15-year-old girl reported she'd been raped by fellow students at Cedar Schoals High School.

The girl, a student at the school, told police the rape happened in a stairwell last month.  Immediately after the alleged rape, she reported it to school officials. After an investigation, police were able to obtain warrants for three suspects:

According to police, there is a surveillance video in the stairwell. The attack was captured on video. Charges were filed based on what that video showed.  All three have been arrested and are currently being held at the Athens-Clarke County jail. A school district spokesperson said the stairwell is in a secluded part of the building with new classes. The spokesperson also said new safety precautions, including extra patrols, have been added. The victim is no longer a student at the high school.

Markel Dereek Brannon, 18, charged with being party to the crime of rape and party to the crime of criminal attempt to commit aggravated sodomy with force.

Jaivous Malik Collins, 17, charged with rape and and being a party to the crime of criminal attempt to commit aggravated sodomy with force.

Xavier Marquise Clarke, 18, charged with being a party to the crime of rape and criminal attempt to commit aggravated sodomy with force. All three have been arrested and are currently being held at the Athens-Clarke County jail.
