Suspended 50 games: Minor-leaguer Brandon Brown tested positive for performance drugs
Minor-leaguer suspended for 50 games

Free-agent minor-league third baseman Brandon Brown was suspended for 50 games Tuesday by Major League Baseball for violating the drug policy.

Brown tested positive for Stanozolol, a performance-enhancing substance. He will begin serving his suspension when he signs with an organization.

A 22nd-round draft pick in 2010 out of South Alabama, Brown spent three seasons in the minors in the New York Mets' system. Last season with the Class A Savannah Sand Gnats, he hit .222 with five homers and 34 RBI in 91 games.
