Not even a driving ban will keep this girl off the road. Although she can’t do much damage at 5mph.

Texas State University student Tara Monroe had her driving licence suspended after she refused a breathalyser test during a traffic stop.

After hearing of her arrest and ban for DWI, her dad drove all the way to her home in San Marcos and took her car away from her, leaving her with a bike to get to university and back.

But, Tara had a different set of wheels in mind: a bright pink, plastic, battery-powered Barbie Jeep.

The 20-year-old industrial engineering student told San Antonio Express-News: ‘Riding a bike around campus sucks. Like really sucks.’

So, she looked on Craigslist for an alternative and found the $60 Barbie Jeep. She has to charge it up, its top speed is only 5mph, and she struggles with hills, but Tara’s delighted with her new ride – which she’s christened Charlene.

It just suits her personality better apparently. And at 5ft 3in, she can just about squeeze in.
