Storm Knocks Out Power to 6,500 Customers in Georgia
ATLANTA - Utility crews are working to restore electricity to roughly 6,500 Georgia Power customers across the state.
Georgia Power spokeswoman Carol Boatright said Monday that the outages happened when ice from a winter storm sent tree limbs crashing into power lines. In other cases, ice-covered electric lines failed.
The outages were largely clustered in Dublin, Hawkinsville, Savannah, Statesboro and Waynesboro. Boatright said it was not clear when electricity will be restored to all customers.
Georgia Power has 2,500 of its own linesman and tree removal specialists trying to fix the outages. Their ranks were reinforced by 1,800 out-of-state utility crew brought in from as far away as Michigan.
