Sickly Apple CEO Steve Jobs made a surprise appearance in San Francisco as the company prepared to unveil the hotly-anticipated second version of the iPad.

News of Jobs' presence at the Yerba Buena Center sparked an immediate jump in Apple stock.

The 56-year-old visionary has been on a leave of absence since January because of undisclosed health problems, and has mostly avoided major Apple events.
