Snow In Forecast For Metro Atlanta

ATLANTA -- Severe Weather Team 2 chief meteorologist Karen Minton is tracking a winter storm system that is projected to bring rain and snow to metro Atlanta.

A winter weather advisory will be in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday through noon Thursday.

Minton said the system could roll in from the northwest on Wednesday evening. Hours later, by 1 a.m., a mix of rain, sleet and snow is expected to hit metro Atlanta. The area could see up to 1 inch of snow, and the north Georgia mountains could see 1-2 inches, Minton said. But it is expected to clear quickly due to relatively warm temperatures.

"By the time we get to eight o'clock in the moing, it's all gone," Minton said. "Temperatures will warm up quickly, so you won't even know by afteoon, with a 45-degree high on Thursday afteoon, that you had any snow."

She said the warm weather will continue into the weekend.

"By the time you get to Sunday, you’re going to say, ‘What winter?’ It’s going to be 60 degrees, Minton said.
