Shocking video footage captured the moment a professional athlete died after diving 65ft into a river, live on TV.

Andrej Beuc was participating in a televised diving competition in Bosnia and Herzegovina when he failed to fully resurface from the River Drina.

Thousands of people watched on in horror as the 34 year old Slovenian struggled to keep afloat following the performance.

Cheers from the crowd tued into gasps of shock as fans realised that the athlete had hit difficulties in the water.

A group of rescue boats were on the scene within seconds, however due to the river"s murky water they could not spot Beuc in time.
