Salinas school counselor Gilbert Olivares arrested with videotapes of students having sex

A 34-year-old high school drug counselor was in jail Tuesday night on a million dollars bail after Salinas police said they found 14 videotapes of students having sex in his office.

Gilbert Olivares is a Sunrise House youth counselor who worked out of Salinas High School.

Salinas police were searching Oliveras' home Monday night because a student had accused the counselor of molesting him. During the search, police said they found child po on Oliveras' computer along with the sex tapes.

Oliveras does not appear in the sex videos, but police said they think he set up the camera.

"We don't know entire situation of how students were able to get to go into the room and do that kind of activity to begin with," said Salinas Police Sgt. Christopher Land. "Then to be filmed by a counselor...it's shocking."

A second student has now come forward alleging inappropriate touching by Oliveras.

Oliveras had worked at the school for five years.
