Perhaps Reese Witherspoon felt the need to put some distance between herself and the lingering memory of her bleary-eyed brunette mugshot.

The 37-year-old Oscar winner quietly debuted her back-to-blonde locks while watching son Deacon's soccer match in Brentwood Saturday.

A source told Mail Online: 'Reese is so relieved to be back to blonde, she feels like it sums up the core of who she is and that her momentary transgression with the police can be forever linked to the dark-haired alter-ego. She feels that that happened to another person now.'

The newly blonde actress put on a brave face alongside her husband Jim Toth since their arrest for public intoxication last month.

Witherspoon looked casual in a blue-and-white gingham shirt and summery white shorts, tucking her just-dyed tresses under a straw fedora.

The mother-of-three shielded her eyes behind a pair of retro wayfarer sunglasses, though she easily only had eyes for her husband, as the couple help close and enjoyed a kiss.

While the duo mostly kept to themselves, they remained cheerful as they chatted with other parents during the match.

The pair were on the sidelines cheering on the actress' sporty son Deacon, holding tight to a camera to capture their best moments.

The Walk the Line actress has taken a liking to the upscale Los Angeles neighbourhood, having closed escrow this week on her third home in the area.

She reportedly has plans to knock down the neighbouring properties to create a massive estate on one of Los Angeles most exclusive - and expensive - areas.

Reese and her husband Jim Toth - who along with his wife was arrested last month, the agent for a DUI and the actress for obstruction - had reportedly been house hunting for larger homes around Los Angeles but failed to find anything suitable.

The Legally Blonde star is currently on break from filming her latest movie The Good Lie in Atlanta -- the same city where she was now infamously arrested last month with alongside her husband on drinking and driving charges.

Reese has since described having to tell her young children was 'the hardest part' about her arrest.

'You have to say when you make a mistake, you have to take responsibility,' she told Good Moing America.

'And we are taking responsibility and doing everything in our power to make it right. You just have to be honest with them. That was definitely the hardest part.'

Reese was fined $213, while Toth was put on probation, fined, and ordered to attend alcohol education classes after his DUI arrest.
