While it may look incredibly life-like (even if the proportions are more suited to a 14-year-old boy"s fantasies rather than a real female) this ‘woman" is in fact a doll.

However it seems having things such as a personality or a pulse doesn"t matter to many Chinese men, who are increasingly using ‘sex dolls" to fulfil their sexual desires in place of real women.

Specialist shops in Beijing are selling the dolls for $2,500 each, and the ones pictured are called ‘156", named after their height in centimetres.

They are made from thermoplastic elastomer which is softer than silicon, and have adjustable hands, heads, and… er… genitals (we"ll leave the explanation of that one to your parents).

The sudden rise in demand for these silent women is thought to be due to the culture of many Chinese men travelling to the city to work during the week, then retuing to their suburban wives and families during the weekend.

One punter, who only gave his name as Liu, told the South China Moing Post: ‘If a married man refuses to see prostitutes and uses a doll instead, isn"t it admirable?"

Liu has a top-of-the-range doll in his weekday Beijing studio apartment, and his thoughts on using it are creepy to say the least.

‘The only way a doll is better than a woman is that it won"t resist, so people can do whatever they want with it," he added.

Despite all this many users feel having sex with one of these is ‘morally correct", rather than interacting with prostitutes or mistresses.
