Police: Same gun used in killings of homeless men Tommy Mims and Dorian Jenkins in Atlanta
Ballistics have confirmed that the two homeless men were shot with a .45 caliber revolver.
Atlanta police have narrowed the guns to a Smith and Wesson, "Goveor" and a Taurus "Judge."
The ammunition is a .45 Colt Blazer 200 grain in a non-reloadable aluminum case.
Police say Dorian Jenkins was shot and killed on Ralph McGill Blvd. on Nov. 23. Three days later, Tommy Mims was found shot to death on Northside Dr. near Whitehall St.
Jenkins was shot five times, Mims was shot seven times. All of the bullets were fired from the same gun.
"Someone had to reload the weapon in order to get seven rounds in him," Detective David Quinn with the Atlanta Police Department said. "So, they had to unload it with the shell casings that were spent, add two more bullets, at least, and fire the last two rounds in Mr. Mims."
Quinn said what makes this case even more disturbing is that there are no signs of a motive, and the men who were killed had their faces covered so the killer didn't even know who they were.
"We just want to make the public aware and the homeless brothers and sisters to be vigilant with each other, we also want the general public if you see people at intersections in beds alone encourage them to bunk down or camp with other people until we get a handle on what we have here," Quinn said. "We have a particularly evil individual that has shot two of our homeless community in Atlanta in less than 3 miles away from each other."
Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-TIPS (8477).
