Police: Man shot, killed in robbery attempt in northwest Atlanta
Investigators say a northwest Atlanta man was ambushed and killed in his own home oveight. Atlanta police believe a group of robbers is responsible, and they don't believe the crime was random.
The attack happened on Lowe Street. Police say they believe the victim was targeted, but they're not sure exactly why.
According to family members, the victim-- who has not been identified-- retued home from dinner with his wife at around 1 a.m. When they arrived back at the house, he was ambushed by three to four gunmen. They say the gunmen forced him into his house, where a fight broke out.
Police say the victim was shot multiple times in what they believe was an attempted robbery. They say they believe the suspects tried to get away with some items, but they're still working to verify those details.
The gunmen took off, and the man was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim's brother-in-law spoke with All News 106.7's Carolyn Ryan when he stopped by the family's house on Tuesday moing. He said his sister and her husband had just picked up their daughter from college, and dropped her off at the house before going to dinner. He said his sister and her daughter are both physically okay after the shooting, but it was obviously a traumatic experience for both of them.
The victim's brother-in-law also said the suspects got away with his sister's purse.
