Two people have been arrested in connection with the smash-and-grab robbery last month of a Buckhead jewelry store in which the thieves stole $50,000 worth of merchandise, police said Friday.

Shermaine Coffie, 17, and Andre Pitts, 20, were being held at the Fulton County Jail, where they have been charged with burglary, after they were taken into custody Thursday, Sgt. Kevin Iosty, a police spokesman said in a written statement.

Authorities said the two men were involved in the May 18 burglary of Estate Jewelers Trading Co., located in the 2900 block of Peachtree Road.

The suspects smashed the glass out of the front door during the robbery at Estate Jewelers, which is housed on the second floor of The Peach shopping center. A front window was also smashed and several display cases destroyed before the jewelry, which was valued at an estimated $50,000, was taken.

In the moments before Estate Jewelers was robbed, another Buckhead jewelry store, Mayors Jewelers, located in the 3200 block of Peachtree Road, was also targeted. The thieves, however, were unable to get past the front door.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
