Mom Charged After Tot Tests Positive For Cocaine, Police Say

PITTSBURGH -- Police arrested a Swissvale mother after they said her 3-year-old son tested positive for cocaine in his system.

Kathryn Forrest, 32, faces drug and endangering the welfare of children charges after officers found her naked and unresponsive inside of an apartment on Woodstock Avenue on Aug. 4.

Investigators said Forrest's boyfriend was also found naked inside of the apartment with a crack pipe in his possession.

Police said they removed the boy from the home and he later tested positive for the drug.

Investigators said the conditions inside of the apartment were deplorable. Police said the refrigerator was broken, there were open food containers and mold growing in the living room, several cats were roaming the house and there was a but metal spoon on the dresser.

Police said the boy was covered in bug bites and small cuts, and his stuffed animals were infested with fleas.

Forrest was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing, but did not show up, police said. Hours later she was arrested and taken into custody.
