A rumour that drug lord El Chapo had escaped prison for the third time yesterday saw everyone get a little carried away.

Twitter was overcome with GIFs and memes expressing sheer disbelief that the head of Mexico"s Sinaloa cartel could have possibly slipped out of maximum security prison again.

If true, it would have been a major embarrassment for Mexican authorities, who had already seen Joaquin Guzman escape twice in 2001 and 2015.

So, determined to prove that El Chapo hadn"t pulled off his third Houdini routine on thier watch. Miguel Angel Osorio Chong, the head of Mexico"s interior ministry, tweeted a picture to prove he is still behind bars.

It shows the world"s most notorious drug lord sitting alone in a prison room.

Guzman is awaiting a final decision on his possible extradition to the United States to face trial on drug trafficking charges.
