CONYERS, Ga. -- Students at a high school in Rockdale County were evacuated Wednesday after a type of pepper spray was released inside a school hallway.

Two students at Heritage High School were taken to a hospital to be treated for irritation, said Cindy Ball, director of community relations for Rockdale County Public Schools.

Ball said the spray, which she described as O.C. spray, was released by a student around 11:15 a.m. That prompted school officials to evacuate the entire building as a precaution, she said.

Maintenance workers reversed the flow of air in the building to help clear the spray, and students had retued to the school by early Wednesday afteoon, Ball said.

Ball said she's not sure why the spray was released.
