A Pennsylvania teen could be jailed for up to two years after posting a lewd picture on Facebook which showed him stimulating a sex act on a Jesus statue.

The 14-year-old has been charged under a 1972 law which makes the desecration of a venerated object a criminal offence.

The unnamed teen, who will face a juvenile court, sparked a series of online threats after the pictures being posted, the Altoona Mirror reported.

Police said the boy posed for the picture in late July, in front of Love in the Name of Christ, a Christian organisation in his home town of Everett. The Smoking Gun reported.

One of the pictures reveals the boy kneeling with his crutch in front of the kneeling statue and in another he has his arms open wide.

The teenager didn’t tell police why he committed the offence or why he posted the pictures to his Facebook page.
