DeKalb County police are investigating after a man was run over and killed at the intersection of Covington Highway and Welbron Drive.

They said the man was walking along Covington Highway at about 1:30 a.m. when at least one car hit him in front of the Saint Stephen Lutheran Church.

A GA Daily News photojoualist arrived at the scene before police and firefighters.

Once police arrived, Channel 2 spotted them talking with drivers in a couple of stopped cars. Investigators said right now, they're not sure how many times the man was struck or why he was walking.

"One or more vehicles may have hit him, and it's an ongoing investigation. That's about all we know at this time," DeKalb County Police Department Lt. C.T. Barkett said.

Police said the incident does not appear to be a hit-and-run, and two vehicles stopped at the scene.
