Pakistanis arrest informants who fed CIA information about Osama Bin Laden
Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was killed by Navy SEALS earlier this year.

In the U.S., they'd be treated as heroes. But in Pakistan, they're being treated as suspects.

Pakistan's top spy agency has arrested five of their country's informants who fed information to the CIA leading up to last month's U.S. raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

A Weste official in Pakistan confirmed an initial New York Times report on Wednesday that the informants were taken into custody.

The detainees -- including a Pakistani army major who wrote down the license plates of cars going to and from the Bin Laden compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan -- played a critical role in busting the terrorist mastermind on May 2.

The move is likely to further strain U.S-Pakistan relations, which have deteriorated significantly since the covert American mission that left Pakistan looking incompetent and, according to some officials, even complicit.

According to The Times, the fate of the CIA informants remains unclear. But U.S. officials told the newspaper that CIA Director Leon Panetta brought up the issue last week when he went to Islamabad and met with Pakistani officials.

The Pakistani military denied that any army officer had been arrested over what it called the \"Abbottabad incident,\" according to AFP.
