AN OBSESSED Taylor Swift fan swam more than 1.5 kilometres to her Rhode Island beach home in order to meet the star.

However the 22-year-old Chicago man was picked up around 2.30am by police who charged him with trespassing.

TMZ reports that the man told police he had completed a swim and was going to meet Swift. However he ended up swimming back to where he started, a 3.2-kilometre round swim, in the middle of the night.

Police have reportedly met with Swift's security detail to discuss the incident.
