Nicholson Mayor Ronnie Maxwell Arrested, Charged With Theft

Nicholson Mayor, Ronnie Maxwell, tued himself in to GBI agents at the Jackson County Jail Wednesday moing on theft charges.

A local news TV reporter broke the news Tuesday night, that Maxwell was expected to tu himself in.

According to a GBI news release, "The investigation began in June of 2015 after allegations surfaced that Maxwell had inappropriately utilized SPLOST funds to pave a private road that he contends is city property."

The reporter was at Nicholson City Hall last week, when agents raided the building and walked out with more than a dozen boxes filled with city financial records.

GBI Special Agent, Mike Ayers, tells the reporter about $20,000 in tax payer money was used to pave that road.

Mayor Maxwell walked out of the Jefferson County Jail a couple hours after tuing himself in, and said he could not comment on the allegations.
