New German police outfits look like something from Star Wars
The force is strong (Picture: Twitter/MGM)

They look like they"re gearing up for the release of Star Wars:The Force Awakens, but these police helmets are totally real – and they"re being used by the force in Germany.

While they look like they"d provide a great deal of protection, there"s no denying that there"s something otherworldly about them, and Lord Vader would most definitely approve.

Despite the strange appearance, the new police outfits feature an overcoat fitted with protective ceramic plates, while the titanium helmet is able to deflect bullets.

The slope of the helmet is also pretty clever too – designed to deflect blows away from the head and onto the outfit"s padded shoulders instead.

They were first unveiled by German interior minister Joachim Herrmann in Munich earlier this week.

The force, it seems, is strong… quite literally.
