A naked man who tried to carjack several drivers on an Australian highway was chased, tackled and hogtied by his victims until cops arrived, police said.

The 26-year-old allegedly ran into the road and smashed the windscreen of a moving truck in Karragullen, Weste Australia, on Friday.

Stunned by the random assault, the driver lost control and flipped his car onto its side.

Another motorist stopped to help, but was also attacked by the stick-wielding maniac. The man then tried to carjack a woman who also pulled up. "He tried to drag the woman out of her car and carjack her, ripping at her clothes and hair,” witness Frankie Ferraro said.

As the victims called the emergency services for help, the lunatic ran off down the road — stripping off his clothes as he went.

His targets managed to chase him down, and threw him to the ground, where they hogtied him until police arrived at the scene.

Phil Ferraro, the first driver to stop, said the man was \"going crazy.\"
\"This guy had run out from the bush (and) smashed the (driver's) windscreen,\" he told 9News.

\"He tried to drag the girl out of her car and carjack her, ripping at her clothes and hair,\" he added.

Ferraro's daughter Frankie posted an image of the restrained, nude suspect on her Facebook page.

The man, who has not been named, was taken to Armadale Hospital.

Police later charged him with endangering a life, health or safety of a person. He will attend court later this month.
