Multiple dead after Molotov cocktail attack on Cairo nightclub
TERRIFYING footage has captured the moment a deadly inferno sparked by Molotov cocktails, killing 16 people, tore through a Cairo nightclub

A MOLOTOV cocktail attack on a Cairo disco killed at least 16 people and wounded at least three in the early hours of Friday as a blaze broke out, police said.

Police launched a manhunt after the perpetrators fled the scene of the firebombing in the Agouza neighbourhood of the Egyptian capital.

Two young men carried out the attack because they had previously been rejected from entering the club, state news agency MENA reported.

Terrifying video published by local news agency Youm7 shows thick smoke gushing from the entrance of the El Sayad venue, which was transformed into a deadly infeo. Flames were buing the inside of the building and charring the facade.

Helpless onlookers watched as rescue crews frantically tried to put out the ferocious blaze which tued into a death trap for revellers.

The Ministry of Interior, in a statement posted on its Facebook page, cited an unnamed official with its Security Information Center who said a preliminary investigation showed the attack happened after a dispute between the nightclub staff and some other people, who then threw Molotov cocktails at the entrance.

Unconfirmed reports suggest one of the attackers was a former employee who was recently fired.

While Egypt is regularly hit by extremist violence, particularly targeting security forces, attacks on nightclubs are rare.
