Mob Justice: Angry Indians break into a prison and kidnap man accused of raping a student

THOUSANDS of Indians have lynched a suspected rapist after breaking into the prison in act of vigilante justice.

Syed Farid Khan was stripped naked, beaten and dragged seven kilometres before they hanged him on display.

The Bangladeshi allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman in February and was imprisoned for raping a minor as well as allegedly being an illegal immigrant.

The angry mob managed to overpower the high security facility and paraded the naked man through the town. Khan was beaten and pelted with stones. His lifeless body was then strung up at the Clock Tower in the main city, Dimapur.

According to media, the man died while being dragged seven kilometres after being tied to a motorcycle.

The Indian govement has called for calm following the shocking public attack on the man which was filmed by protesters.

There have been reports the group was as big as 90000, while other Indian media has reported the number closer to 1500.

One protester has died during police intervention. The man took two bullets to the chest after police opened fire on the mob. According to the Hindustan Times, four others are in serious condition.

This comes after the Indian govement decided to ban the broadcast of India"s Daughter, a documentary about the 2012 gang rape of a student in Dehli. With the help of the inteet, people across India were able to watch the banned program which aired in the UK this week.

The documentary features an interview with one of the men sentences to death for the rape attack.

There is outrage due to the lack of remorse shown by the convicted rapist and comments saying the victim might have survived the attack if she has not resisted against him, which have sparked protests across India.
