Michelle Nunn campaigns with dad, former Senator Sam Nunn, featured in new ad
Former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn has been advising his daughter, Michelle, a Georgia Democrat, on her run for an open Senate seat now held by Republicans. The two talked on the sidelines of her daughter's soccer game.

Less than two weeks ahead of the Nov. 4th Election Day, Georgia Democrat running for U.S. Senate, Michelle Nunn, campaigned with her father, former Sen. Sam Nunn (D), on Thursday at the Young Harris College in Northeast Georgia.

The younger Nunn is running for the same seat that her father held for 24 years until his retirement in 1997. She’s running against David Perdue, Georgia businessman and cousin of former Georgia Goveor Sonny Perdue (R).

Sen. Nunn’s bipartisan record in the Senate, service on the Intelligence Committee, and successful operation in 1994 to force Haitian military dictator Lieutenant General Raoul Cedras to step aside, allegedly made him one of the top choices for Secretary of Defense or State in 1996 (and 1992), a possible cabinet appointment for what would have been Al Gore’s administration in 2000, and a consideration for running-mate with John Kerry in 2004 and Barack Obama in 2008.

In a Thursday interview with WSBTV, Sam Nunn called his daughter an ”independent thinker and said that the accusations from Perdue about the Democrat falling in line with her party once elected is exactly what he heard when he was running for office.

”So I basically told people in Georgia in 1972 I was going to make my own decisions and work with any president, whether Democrat or Republican, and I was going to do it based on what I thought was best for Georgia, said the former senator.

This is the first time the former senator is campaigning with his daughter. Nunn also released an ad on Thursday featuring her father.

”I’ve seen time and again how Michelle is able to work with anyone to help people and solve problems, says the older Nunn in the ad. ”Washington works when we have independent thinkers on both sides of the aisle. I may be a little biased, but I know Michelle would make a big difference for Georgia and our nation.
