Metro Detroit Man Robert Kelly to Stand Trial in Daughter's Beating Death
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - An Oakland County psychologist will stand trial in the baseball bat beating death of his 20-year-old daughter in his Oxford home.
Rochester Hills District Court Judge Lisa Asadoorian on Thursday bound 52-year-old Robert Kelly over to Oakland County Circuit Court on a charge of first-degree premeditated murder.
Megan Roberts was found beaten on her bed by her mother, who was visiting Kelly's home, 30 miles northwest of Detroit.
Kelly later walked into a police station and told a dispatcher he committed an assault.
Roberts fell into a coma and died last month.
Defense attoey Sanford Schulman says there isn't sufficient evidence for first-degree, premeditated murder.
Schulman also says Kelly had been on Xanax and wrote a suicide note. Xanax often is used to treat people with panic disorder.
