A 26-year-old man has confessed to 39 murders, say Brazilian police.

Officers said they linked a fun found in the home of Tiago Rocha to the killings of at least six women this year.

He was arrested earlier this week and has since confessed to the alarming number of murders.

Earlier today, he attempted suicide by slitting his wrists after smashing the light bulb in his cell.

The killings date back to 2013 and include several young women and some homeless people.
