Lowell Man Andrew Burke Indicted On Attempted Murder, Rape Charges
BOSTON -- A Lowell man was indicted by a Middlesex grand jury Tuesday on charges stemming from a July 10 sexual assault, the Middlesex District Attoey's Office said.
Andrew Burke, 21, is accused of choking a female jogger to the point of unconsciousness, dragging her to an area of bushes and sexually assaulting her.
At 10 a.m. July 10 Lowell police responded to Aiken Street near the Merrimack River following reports of a sexual assault. Police said the victim was jogging along the river when Burke attacked her.
Burke was arrested in Cambridge on July 13 and was arraigned in Lowell District Court on July 14 and held on $250,00 cash bail, the Middlesex District Attoey's office said.
There is currently no arraignment date set for Burke's grand jury indictment.
