Lion in park where Cecil lived kills photographic guide Quinn Swales tracking his pride
A lion killed a safari guide leading a group of tourists in the same national park where Cecil the lion lives before being lured outside the park and killed by an American dentist.
The 40-year-old tracker, Quinn Swales, was leading a group of tourists on a photographic walking safari in Hwange National Park when he spotted a pride of six lions Monday, police spokeswoman Charity Charamba said Tuesday.
When one of the lions with cubs became defensive, Swales scared the animals away, Charamba said.
"But then the male lion later made a U-tu and attacked him,\" she said.
None of the tourists was harmed
The lion, called Nxaha, had a tracking collar, as Cecil did.
In a separate incident in Zimbabwe, the authorities said a man who sold curios to tourists was killed by an elephant in the resort town of Victoria Falls, about 60 miles from Hwange, also on Monday.
