Lilburn man Rodrigo Diaz killed after pulling into wrong driveway, friends say
A man was shot and killed after pulling into the wrong driveway in Lilbu, the man's friends say.
Police have charged Phillip Sailors in the shooting death of 23-year-old Rodrigo Diaz.
Gandy Cardenas says he and three friends were picking up another friend, Yelimay Garcia, to go ice skating on Saturday night, but ended up at the wrong house on Hillcrest Drive in Lilbu.
When they pulled into the driveway, they say Sailors, the homeowner, came out with a gun.
The arrest warrant said Philips Sailors fired his .22-caliber pistol in the direction of the victim while the victim was driving away.
"He didn't talk to them, he just started shooting," Cardenas said through a translator. "The first shot was in the air."
The teens say after Sailors fired that one shot into the air, the driver got scared and tried to tu around. That's when Sailors allegedly fired the second shot, killing their friend.
Police took the other three who were in the car to the police station and questioned them oveight. Authorities say they then had enough evidence to arrest Sailors and charge him with murder.
Garcia, who has only been in the country for a few months, can't understand how any of this could have happened.
"That means that you cannot come to a house and be confused about it? And somebody will come out and say, 'Hello, may I help you? What are you doing here?' And you start shooting like a maniac," Garcia said through a translator.
