Lao Airlines plane carrying 44 people crashes into River killing all on board
A PLANE has crashed into the Mekong River as it was coming into land at an airport in Laos, killing 44 people, reports say.
Thailand's foreign ministry says the crash killed all 44 people aboard.
Foreign ministry spokesman Sek Wannamethee says the Thai Embassy in the Lao capital of Vientiane reported that a Lao Airlines flight from Vientiane to Pakse in southe Laos crashed Wednesday at about 4pm Lao time (8pm AEDT).
Mr Sek says there were 39 passengers, including five Thais, and five crew members aboard.
Calls to Lao govement officials and airline offices seeking further details went unanswered.
The ART twin-turbo plane had taken off from the capital Vientiane and was attempting to land in bad weather at an airport in Paske, in the south of the country.
