Jockey Kent Desormeaux posts $500 bail after being arrested after incident with traffic cop.

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Three-time Kentucky Derby winning jockey Kent Desormeaux was arrested early Wednesday evening and charged with reckless endangerment after allegedly trying to run over a traffic cop, while exiting the track.

The 41-year-old jockey was charged with the misdemeanor and was later released after posting $500 bail.

According to the Daily Racing Form, Desormeaux is quoted as saying, "I was trying to be cute."

The incident cost him his mount aboard Dullahan in Thursday afteoon's $150,000 With Anticipation, as the stewards prohibited him from riding Thursday.

"The stewards made the determination based on the events of the last 24 hours," said New York State Racing and Wagering Board spokesman Lee Park.

Desormeaux is not expected back in court until Tuesday.

Park also said Desormeaux was not tested for drugs or alcohol.

Last year, the Hall of Fame jockey had two alcohol-related incidents, including a failed Breathalyzer at Woodbine in July, causing him to lose business with several owners.

On Wednesday, the stewards also fined him $500 for "misuse of the riding crop" when winning the seventh race on Monday aboard Need an Angel.

Desormeaux, who has 13 winners from 52 mounts at the current Saratoga meeting, was unavailable for comment.
