Is that diamond ring in your gut? Utah woman Christina Schlegel Swallows Stolen Diamond Ring

AS criminals go, Bryan Ford and Christina Schlegel probably rate as rank amateurs.

Ford, 29, ran off with a $4350 diamond ring he was examining at Zales diamond store in the city of Orem, Utah.

Despite being chased by an employee, Ford allegedly ran into a Pontiac G6, with a woman — later identified as 25-year-old Schlegel — in the driver’s seat, which had the license plate covered with pink sticky notes, the Daily Herald reported.

Orem Police Department officers stopped the vehicle 30 minutes later and a Zales’ employee identified Ford as the robber of the diamond ring.

“At the time, our officers were unable to find the stolen ring,” Lt. Craig Martinez of the Orem Police Department told KSL-TV.

“After being sent on several wild goose chases, we found out that Christina had swallowed the ring in (an) attempt to hide it when they were pulled over by police.”

Schlegel was taken to the hospital to be checked by doctors before being booked into jail.

“It was confirmed in an X-ray that she had in fact swallowed the ring,” Martinez said.

Martinez said Ford and Schlegel were booked into the Utah County Jail on felony theft charges.
