Is Facebook about to follow in the footsteps of WhatsApp?

Facebook may be planning to implement the same end-to-end encryption to its Messenger service as Whatsapp, bringing extra security to it. Sources close to the social network have hinted that Messenger is almost ready to put out encryption to its 900 million users worldwide. This comes only two months after encryption was enabled by default for Whatsapp users within the app.

End-to-end encryption is a system of communication where only the people communicating can read the messages. No eavesdropper can access the keys needed to unscramble the encrypted messages including telecom providers, inteet providers and even the messaging service.

Encryption has gained increasing popularity amongst messaging services, due mainly to the fact that it provides peace of mind for consumers as they don't have to worry about the app developer digging through their messages or handing them over to govement organizations.

However, encryption has also created worries among some govements even prompting British Prime Minister David Cameron to speak out against end-to-end encryption saying, 'In our country, do we want to allow a means of communication between people which we cannot read?

'My answer to that question is no we must not.” Prime Minister Cameron claimed that he would not seek to ban Whatsapp in the UK. The US Department of Justice has expressed similar conces over the subject.
