Ice fishermen continue annual tradition of getting stuck
Should these fishermen quit calling rescuers each year?

In an epic tale of man versus wild, more than 600 Russian fishermen had to be airlifted from the icy, wind-hammered waters of the North Pacific on Sunday after a swath of ice broke free and sent them afloat into a harrowing battle for survival.

It would seem like a terrifying anomaly, except for one thing: That harrowing battle seems to happen every year.

It has become a bit of a tradition, in fact, for stubbo fishermen around Sakhalin Island to work too late into the year, despite persistent waings from weather officials, and then show surprise when the ice predictably breaks and leaves them stranded.

Should these fishermen quit calling rescuers each year?
