Hornet deaths hit 41 with thousands hurt
The death toll from a spate of attacks by giant hoets has reached 41.
More than 1,600 people have been stung in China, with 37 in a serious condition in hospital.
Extra medical staff have been trained to treat victims in central Shaanxi province, while firefighters have been drafted in to remove hoet nests.
The cities of Ankang, Hanzhong and Shangluo have been worst affected.
The type of hoet blamed for the attacks is the Asian giant hoet, which can grow up to 5cm long with a 6mm sting.
It is thought that drier, warmer weather has contributed to the ferocity of the attacks.
The hoets are also said to be most aggressive during the months of September and October when they mate and migrate.
