Google's Back-up Plan for the Robot Uprising
Tech giant Google is going forward at full speed with its plans for artificial intelligence, despite the waings it's gotten from renowned physicist Stephen Hawking and Tesla CEO Elon Musk that it could bring humanity to an early and unpleasant end. Google does seem to have a backup plan in place.
Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk have previously expressed displeasure with these types of advances in artificial intelligence programming, saying it's akin to 'summoning the demon”. Professor Hawking has claimed that the development of full artificial intelligence 'could spell the end of the human race.” CEO Elon Musk described it as 'our biggest existential threat”.
However, Google seems to know the threat artificial intelligence could pose and have a set of precautions in place. According to a new document published by DeepMind, one of Google's most advanced artificial intelligence outfits, several safety measures are to be built into the androids in order to 'take control of a robot that is misbehaving” and may 'lead to irreversible consequences”
The document was the result of collaboration between Google's DeepMind and The Oxford University Future of Humanity Institute. The document, dubbed Safety Interruptible Agents, describes how to disable artificial intelligence if it rebels and begins to take actions that its creators and human operators did not intend for it to do.
So it appears that there aren't any great robot uprisings in the near future, not if we can help it anyway.
