Google+ combats 'ghost town' image with pet masks

Google+ is rolling out new virtual cat and dog masks for users to sport when they converse on the social network. Google+ product manager Amit Fulay announced the additions to the site's chat \"effects\" roster, which already included mustaches, reindeer antlers and devil hos, saying Google+'s \"hangouts can be serious, but they can be fun too!\" A recent Wall Street Joual article described Google+ a \"virtual ghost town,\" highlighting comScore data showing that visitors to Google+ spend a mere three minutes a month on the site, compared to six or seven hours on Facebook.

Will goofy interactive features get people onto Google+?
