The son of Grammy award winner Gladys Knight and his chicken and waffles chain are the targets of a Georgia Department of Revenue investigation to the tune of $1 million. The Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles restaurants, owned by Knight’s son Shanga Hankerson and the company’s corporate headquarters were raided on Tuesday by Revenue department agents. The department has said that the singer is not being investigated

According to authorities, they tried and failed to serve Hankerson with arrest warrants at his home. He stands accused of withholding state taxes and stealing more than $650,000 worth of sales.

The stores are currently closed but officials are working with Hankerson’s lawyer to ”have the business up and running again as soon as possible, says Josh Waites of the Office of Special Investigations.
