A 15ft python strangled a security guard to death in front of shocked residents on Indonesia"s resort island of Bali.

Witnesses say the giant snake was crossing a road near the Hyatt hotel in Bali"s Sanur area at around 3am this moing when the incident occurred.

‘It happened so fast," said the hotel"s assistant security manager Agung Bawa. ‘We were sad because we could not do anything to help him."

The victim has been named as Ambar Arianto Mulyo, a 59-year-old security guard at a restaurant near to the hotel.

Mulyo had managed to secure the snake"s head and tail, but the python then wrapped itself around his body and strangled him to death.

People watching were unable to help and called the police, who came but failed to save the man. The python escaped into nearby bushes.
