Georgia GOP candidates in the two most competitive state-wide races, David Perdue for U.S. Senate and Georgia Goveor Nathan Deal for reelection, will be hosting two Republican heavyweights this week, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) respectively, for their Atlanta campaign events.

Perdue, who’s running a close race against Democrat Michelle Nunn, will appear with McCain at the Veterans for Perdue event on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the VFW Post 2681, 140 Powers Ferry Rd. SE, Marietta at 10 am.

Deal, running against Democrat Jason Carter, will take a tour of Georgia Tech and the Roswell Square with Republican Goveors Association chairman Christie at 4 and 6 p.m. on Thursday.

The two Republicans are running surprisingly close races in red Georgia. The state’s changing population, with growing minority groups, immigrants, and migrants from other states, is altering the political environment in the Peach State.

The last time Georgia went blue in presidential elections was in 1992 when majority voted for Bill Clinton. However, before Clinton’s election Georgians already voted red twice, in 84’ and 88’, so the last time Georgia voted consistently for a Democrat for president was before and in 1980. Democratic Senators hang in for a bit longer, with both Max Cleland and Zell Miller making it into early 2000’s.
