Gary Mikulich Accused Of Placing Bomb Outside Detroit Federal Building In February
Gary Mikulich

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- A judge says an Upper Peninsula man accused of placing an explosive outside a Detroit federal building is not mentally competent to face charges.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy Greeley made the decision Wednesday after reading an expert's report about Gary Mikulich. Online court records show there was no objection from the prosecutor or defense attoey.

Mikulich will remain in custody for treatment to improve his mental health. It could last four months.

Mikulich is charged with leaving a metal box containing explosive components outside the McNamara Federal Building in Detroit on Feb. 26. A security officer brought it inside but it sat for nearly three weeks before being examined.

Mikulich has a history of mental illness.
