Former DeKalb County school janitor Rodney Winston arrested on child molestation charges
A one-time janitor at a DeKalb County middle school was arrested and charged with child molestation on Tuesday.
According to Lithonia police Capt. Xavier Todd , Rodney Winston worked at Lithonia Middle School.
Police say in July, Winston allegedly touched 11 and 13-year-old girls. One girl said he touched her on the backside and another girl said he tried to put his hand down the front of her pants.
Police said the victims said Winston tried to pay them before he touched them.
When the girl told her parents, they called the school, who then called police.
"These are serious charges, these are serious allegations and fortunately these charges comes with a lot of time in prison," said Todd. "Upon further investigation, I did find he had prior incidents in the school involving inappropriate touching with students in the school."
DeKalb County School District spokesperson Quinn Hudson issued a statement saying Winston resigned in October in lieu of termination. He had worked for the school system since December 2010.
Winston had three reported incidents while working for the school district. In 2011, he reportedly threw candy at a student. The following year, he was accused of stealing money from a teacher's purse. In 2013, Winston was accused of using inappropriate language with students and was ordered to avoid all contact with a female students and work where students were not present.
DeKalb County schools is working with the police in this investigation.
