Family claims selfie stick helped prevent drowning
Gasping: Erynn was holding a selfie stick the entire time, which recorded the incident. It was the selfie stick that ended up saving her as good samaritan was able to grab it and pull her in

Selfie sticks may be frowned upon at theme parks but one family is crediting the device for saving their lives.

Time reports that a GoPro camera attached to a selfie stick captured a water rescue off the coast of Nantucket in Massachusetts after a father and daughter got caught in a rip current.

The dad grabbed the stick to keep his daughter from being pulled away from him as the water thrashed her around. The girl's mother was swept away while trying to help them.

Fortunately a group of good Samaritans and lifeguards were able to pull them from the water.

The family says they didn't know if they were going to survive the ordeal and are grateful to those that helped.
