Enormous explosion in Syria caught on camera

SYRIAN activists in Daraya have reported that regime helicopters dropped at least six barrel bombs on the rebel-held city in Weste Ghouta.

The Local Council of Daraya said that at least one person was killed and several wounded in the bombardment.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based group monitoring the Syrian civil war, reported through local sources that Syrian regime forces were also launching missiles, believed to be ground-to-ground, on the Damascus suburb.

Barrel bomb raids, widespread in Syria, have been frequently reported by local activists in Daraya over recent weeks.

Human rights group Amnesty Inteational found that more than 3000 civilian deaths between January 2014 and March 2015 occurred in Aleppo from barrel bombs, Business Insider Australia reported. The weapons are typically constructed from large oil drums, gas cylinders or water tanks filled with high explosives and scrap metal.

The United Nations previously called for a ban on barrel bombs in a 2014 resolution
