Devin Taylor Facing First-Degree Murder Charge In Death of Aarie Berry
DETROIT -- A 21-year-old Detroit man is accused of firing the shot that killed a 3-year-old Detroit girl in July while she played inside her home.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Wednesday that Devin Taylor is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting.
The girl, Aarie Berry, was shot in the head July 10 by a bullet that came into her home on the 3100 block of Canton Street.
The girl's aunt, Sydney Stewart, said she was playing with the girl when a bullet came through the wall and struck her in the head.
"She was right in front of me, but I was sitting down on the floor by the couch. Then you heard a lot of popping noises, it sounded like firecrackers, and she don't like firecrackers, so she took off running," Stewart said. "When I realized it was gunshots, because I heard glass, she was already laying there."
Taylor is also charged with three counts of assault with intent to murder and discharging a firearm in a building.
Worthy said Taylor fired shots into the home in retaliation for a disagreement that had happened earlier in the day.
Is arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday afteoon.
