Default on your mortgage, warm up in a foreclosure quilt
Boarded-up homes reclaimed by deed-devouring banks are an eyesore in any neighborhood, but artist Kathryn Clark has managed to tu the foreclosure phenomenon into a stunning textile statement.
The former urban planner, who says she created the \"Foreclosure\" quilt series to place this recurring economic problem into a more visual context, creates her somewhat depressing creations using neighborhood maps culled from the RealtyTrac database, determining foreclosure pattes in a particular city or region and leaving holes in the patchwork where recouped homes are located.
The result: a quirky quilt that beautifully highlights some of this country's most dismal civic data.
Clark's creations: inspirational or strangely sad?
