Woman charged with DUI after allegedly driving on wrong way of I-20

Covington authorities arrested and charged a woman with DUI after driving the wrong way on Interstate 20, according to police.

An off-duty police officer said he witnessed a red Dodge Avenger make a U-tu in the middle of I-20 early Monday moing. The officer said he had to swerve to avoid a collision, then called police as he continued to follow her.

Cpl. J. Williams pulled over the driver, identified as 41-year-old Neece Francis.

”While speaking with Francis, I detected a strong odor of consumed alcohol emitting from the interior of the vehicle. Francis had extremely watery eyes and slurred speech," Williams said.

The officer said he instructed the driver to tu off her car.

”Francis slowly reached for the ignition and made several attempts to tu the vehicle off, but repeatedly missed the key with her hands," Williams said.

Francis was arrested and transported to Rockdale County Jail, where she was charged with DUI and driving on the wrong side
